About the Committee

The UN Security Council is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. It has 15 members, including five permanent members (the U.S., U.K., Russia, China, and France) with veto power, and 10 non-permanent members elected for two-year terms. The Security Council can authorize military action, impose sanctions, and establish peacekeeping missions to address global conflicts. The UN Security Council holds the most power within the United Nations, as it is the only UN body with the authority to make binding decisions that all member states must follow.

Topic: Maintaining Peace and Sovereignty in the Taiwan Strait

The Taiwan Strait is one of the most sensitive regions in global politics. Rising tensions between China and Taiwan, along with the involvement of major powers, threaten peace and stability in the Indo Pacific. This topic asks delegates to find ways to prevent escalation while respecting both sovereignty and the right to self determination. Maintaining balance between diplomacy and security will be crucial to preserving regional peace.
